SERMON OUTLINE Sunday Nov 29th, 2020
Prince of Peace – The Turmoil
Pastor David Cooke
• Feel The Turmoil
1. We long for peace when we feel the turmoil
– We want “normal” again
– We want “freedom” again
– We want “health”
– We want “traditions”
– We want peace
2. The Battle Is Real
Our Pain Is Not A Competition
2 Corinthians 12:8–10
Let’s acknowledge our struggles as real – carry our load – and
recognize the struggles of others – bear others burdens
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
(Galatians 6:2, ESV)
“For each will have to bear his own load.” (Galatians 6:5, ESV)
• The Promise – Prince of Peace
Isaiah 9:1–7
• Zechariah’s Prophecy.
Luke 1:67–79
A World Like Isaiah’s. A World Like Ours
For the world of the New Testament was a world very much like
ours. There were wars. There was sickness. There was poverty and
injustice.
There were people who struggled to keep on living, living by habit
long after they had lost any sense of purpose, meaning, or goal.
• Peace Is The Presence Of Jesus
– You can’t give what you don’t have.
– Jesus is the Prince of Peace – he IS peace.
– If you have Jesus, you have peace.
Matthew 11:28–30
• Practice The Presence of Jesus
A. Come Receive Jesus
1. Live and lead out of the overflow of a Jesus-trusting life.
2. Present. Aware. Still.

3. God’s Word – The Bible App
4. God’s People – Community/Life Groups
-Sometimes I think our response is “I don’t need that.”
Well, maybe they need you.
-You can’t carry people’s burdens from a distance,
only in relationship.
B. Go Be Jesus
“You’re the only Bible some people will read.” Jim Jessup
You’re the only Jesus some people will see.
“I’m the worst Jesus people can see.”
It’s not about you. It’s about Jesus in and through you.
• What’s your next step?
Jesus looks like the fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22–23
– Come Receive Jesus
– Go Be Jesus
KEEP CONNECTED THIS SEASON
Life Groups are officially on break until January 2021. HOWEVER,
that doesn’t mean that we are on break from each other. Now more
than ever, being engaged in community is key to our wellbeing.
Below are suggestions for staying connected in intentional, Jesuscentered relationships:
LECTIO 365.24-7 PRAYER
https://www.24-7prayer.com/dailydevotional
Lectio 365 is a free daily devotional resource that helps you pray
the Bible on your computer, phone or tablet. It is written in realtime by leaders from the 24-7 Prayer movement, so it is truly
pertinent to our times. This resource helps you engage with
Scripture to inspire prayer and shape your life.
YOU VERSION BIBLE APP – bible.com
The Bible App is a free, with no advertising and no in-app
purchases resource. Choose from more than 1,200 Bible versions
in over 900 languages on your computer, phone, or tablet – with
many available as audio Bibles. This resource also allows you to
connect with friends. Many of our Life Groups are finding that the
shared experience of doing devotionals together is a great way to
keep in touch, while encouraging each other with real-life
applications and insights.
ZOOM
https://zoom.us
Face-to-face interaction is the next best thing to being together inperson. Connect and chat on your computer, phone or tablet.
Zoom and other virtual platforms can help your group see each
other while still keeping socially distant. If you need help getting
your group set-up on Zoom, please contact the church.
SMALL HOME GATHERINGS
Nothing beats actually getting together in-person to stay engaged
in supportive relationships. During these pandemic times, small
home gatherings where safety precautions are in place, are good
ways to celebrate this season, and beat the holiday blues.
CHRISTMAS 2020 at COLD SPRINGS
We may not know exactly how Christmas will look at Cold Springs,
but we know that Jesus will be central to our celebrations. We plan
to keep our beloved tradition of Candlelight Services, with a new
twist. Bundling up and coming together outdoors to sing carols,
light candles and exalt the Prince of Peace, will be moments that
our faith family can fondly look back upon together, “Remember
how we celebrated Christmas in that crazy 2020 year?!”
