THIS WEEK (listen to the message at: www.coldspringschurch.net)
In this series we are exploring what the Bible has to say about the “rugged
commitments” to making relationships work.
1. Of the below commitments, which is the most challenging? What must you do
to move forward in this area?
Recap Weeks 1, 2, 3 & 4:
• Love is a rugged commitment to be with someone, for someone, and
toward maturity.
• Unity is a rugged commitment to Jesus and one another that shapes
our beliefs and our actions.
• Humility is a rugged commitment to lower yourself and to lift up one
another.
• Grace is a rugged commitment to believe the best about one another
and act kindly toward one another, regardless.
This weekend we heard how the “holy kiss” in Christian context, expressed unity,
peace and connectedness (Romans 16:16, 2 Cor. 13:12, 1 Thess. 5:25-28). Read
Mark 6:25-34 and Matthew 19:13-15.
2. Who did Jesus really see? How did Jesus speak of and exemplify being fully
present?
Often the distractions of yesterday and the worries of tomorrow get in the way of
hospitality and friendship.
3. What is keeping you from connection?
4. What might you be missing because of worries or plain old busyness?
This week we explore how Connectedness is a rugged commitment to move
toward one another in friendship. There is an African concept of connectedness in
a Zulu greeting called: “Sawubona,” which means, “I see you.” This implies a fully
present engagement by the one greeting, towards the one being greeted.
We are created to live in relationship. There is a deep longing within us to be
“seen”… and, in being seen, to be known, and in being known, to be loved.
5. What helps you really see and be with those around you?
6. Starting with Sunday mornings, what will help you pay more attention to how
you greet others?
