1. Sometimes people accomplish amazing things because they
didn’t know they weren’t supposed to be able to do something.
When have you experienced this or heard of it happening?
2. In Jesus’ introduction of himself to the church in Philadelphia he
identifies himself as God and having the final authority over
people’s lives. Read Revelation 3:7; 6:10 and John 10:27-38.
What is so important about Jesus being God? Why do people
have such a hard time with this claim of Jesus?
3. Jesus emphasizes the importance of keeping and obeying his
word to the Philadelphian church. What “word” is he talking
about? What makes this so important? (See John 14:21 and
John 15:10-14.)
4. The church was also commended for not denying the name of
Jesus. How are we tempted to do that in our world today?
What are ways we can lift of Jesus on a daily basis? (Read
Matthew 10:32-33)
5. When it comes to life and faith, what makes endurance such an
important character quality? How do we develop endurance?
6. The reward of overcoming the challenges of being faithful to
God in a challenging world is assurance we will one day be in
God’s presence and completely his. Do you find this encouraging or comforting? How do you need to change your daily
mindset for this to be meaningful to you?
7. All of the letters to the churches end with the same phrase – “He
who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the
churches.’” (Revelation 3:13, ESV) What is the Holy Spirit saying
to you? To Cold Springs Church? What do you need to do?
