SERMON OUTLINE Sunday August 16th, 2020
Lessons God’s Teaching Me About Growing Up
Pastor David Cooke
• Never A Dull Moment In The Cooke Household
• Growing Deep Roots In God’s Love
Ephesians 3:16–21, NLT
• These times have shown me and all of us what soil we have
planted and rooted ourselves into.
• Lessons I’m Learning
A) When you’re wounded you aren’t going to be efficient
i) 2 Corinthians 4:10, NLT
ii) Psalm 119:71, NLT
iii) It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.
iv) Our weaknesses are opportunities for God’s graces.
A disciple of Jesus is someone who follows Jesus in an ever
deepening relationship of love and helps others do the same.
B) Everything takes longer – and God seems to be OK with that
i) Remember that God is never in a hurry, but he is always on time.
ii) Life’s Healing Choices – Rick Warren Bible App

iii) Isaiah 30:18, NLT
iv) James 1:4 MSG
• You think you’re waiting on God but maybe God is waiting on
you.
C) Hardship Is Revealing My True Character
i) Stress brings out the ugly
ii) Wherever I go, there I am
iii) Small nudges move us quickly to our worst (unrighteousness).
Big nudges are required to move us to righteousness
1 Timothy 4:7–8, NLT
D) I Was More Ready and Less Ready Than I Thought
i) You can’t ask crisis or opportunity to come back at a more
convenient time. The decisions and habits you are making now will
prepare you for the future or undermine your future.
ii) What you are doing TODAY will shape your TOMORROW.
Matthew 25:1–13, NLT

Give Me Jesus – Fernando Ortega
Written by: Moses Hogan
In the morning, when I rise
In the morning, when I rise
In the morning, when I rise, give me Jesus
Give me Jesus
Give me Jesus
You can have all this world
But give me Jesus
And when I am alone
Oh, and when I am alone
And when I am alone, give me Jesus
Give me Jesus
Give me Jesus
You can have all this world
But give me Jesus
And when I come to die
Oh, and when I come to die
And when I come to die, give me Jesus
Give me Jesus
Give me Jesus
You can have all this world
You can have all this world
You can have all this world
But give me Jesus
• Growing Deep Roots In God’s Love
Ephesians 3:16–21, NLT

before you knew you needed it? (Have you thanked Him?) What
are the cracks in your character being revealed through these
times?
5. Are you leaning into Jesus or leaning away from Jesus?
