SERMON STUDY GUIDE Sunday May 24th, 2015
1. When was a time where you saw someone who really stuck out
in the crowd? What made them different? How about for you –
when was a time where you felt you were different than everyone else?
2. Read Revelation 2:8-17. What is the significance of the doubleedged sword in the description of Jesus?
(see Revelation 1:12-16, Hebrews 4:11-13)
3. When was a time where you heard or read something that
Jesus said and it deeply challenged the way you were thinking
or living?
4. When Jesus uses the example of Balaam, he is talking about
the temptation to make compromises in our life that will draw
us away from following Jesus. What are the ways we are
tempted to make compromises in our current culture? What
affect does that have on us?
5. What can we do to guard against slipping away from Jesus?
(see Hebrews 3:12-14; Hebrews 10:24-25; Colossians 4:2;
2 Timothy 3:14-17)
6. If you are following Jesus, you are going to stand out. What is
the difference between standing out because of Jesus in our
lives and standing out because we are good at being religious?
7. “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came
through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17, ESV) How can being like
Jesus – being a person who is full of grace and truth – make us
stand out in a good way?
8. What people need to experience more of – grace or truth – to
see more of Jesus in you? What can you do to grow in this
area? Who will you ask to help you?
