After nearly thirty years of devoted leadership by Pastor David Cooke, Cold Springs Church is entering a significant period of change as it prepares for a transition in its pastoral leadership.
Why Is This Transition Happening?
David Cooke, who has served faithfully as Lead Pastor since 1998, together with the Leadership Board, has discerned that now is the right time to begin a healthy leadership transition. This decision has come after much prayer and thoughtful consideration, not as a sudden or impulsive step. Over the past seven years, David has been preparing himself and the church leadership for this moment, ensuring that the transition is built on a foundation of strategic planning and prayer. Their goal is to create the best possible environment for Cold Springs Church to continue to thrive and that its best days are still to come.
Who Is Daniel Frank and Why Was He Chosen?
Daniel Frank has played an important role at Cold Springs Church through many years of faithful service in youth, young adult and family ministries. He is known for his skills as a communicator, his capable leadership, and his compassionate approach to shepherding the congregation. Daniel is also strengthening his theological foundation by pursuing a Masters of Theology degree. The Leadership Board, church staff, and trusted external advisors have all participated in a careful and extensive vetting process, ultimately concluding that Daniel is the right person to lead Cold Springs Church into its next chapter.
How Was the Decision Made?
The process of choosing who the Leadership Board believes is the next leader for Cold Springs Church was deliberate and thorough. Over the past two years, Daniel Frank has engaged in multiple interviews with the Board, during which his abilities in leadership, teaching, theology, pastoral care, and his skill in leading across generations were carefully
evaluated. External advisors are contributing insight and guidance to ensure that every aspect of the transition is being handled with wisdom and care.
What Is the Transition Process?
The transition in leadership is planned to take place over the next two years. During this time, David Cooke will intentionally release more leadership responsibilities, while Daniel Frank’s responsibilities will grow. Beginning in October of 2025, Daniel will serve as Associate Pastor, taking on new and expanded duties. At the appropriate time, the congregation will be invited to formally affirm Daniel as Lead Pastor through a vote.
What Will David’s Role Be?
Although David will eventually be stepping out of the lead role, he continues to be the Lead Pastor and he will remain actively involved in the life of Cold Springs Church. He will continue to mentor and support Daniel, offering encouragement and guidance throughout the transition and beyond. David is also leading and will complete the Generation to
Generation campaign, remain part of the Sunday teaching team, and continue his work in national and international leadership development, which has been a focus for the past fifteen years. David is and will remain a valued and active member of the Cold Springs Church family!
How Does This Affect Church Members?
With David already intentionally elevating Daniel’s opportunities and responsibilities over the last two years, the church community can be confident in a smooth transition. Members are encouraged to support this process by praying for Daniel and his wife Hannah, as well as for David and his wife Pam. Offering encouragement and affirmation to the leaders as they navigate this season is essential. Remaining engaged in the ongoing ministry and mission of Cold Springs Church and celebrating the emergence of new leaders for future generations is also encouraged.
The Big Question: Will David, Pam, and Cold Springs Be Okay?
The answer is a resounding yes. David and Pam are enthusiastic about the decision and fully support the transition. The Leadership Board and staff are unified in their approach, and the church has confidence that God, who has guided Cold Springs for nearly eighty years, will continue to prepare the congregation for an even greater future together.
